Gabriele & Guendalina Salini, the first collector and patron of art projects, the second artist and curator, wanted G-rough to be perceived as a widespread art gallery.
As home of Gabriele before the transformation, on the 5th floor of the building, the house was a gathering place and meeting point for friends, poets, musicians, and artists – it’s with this energy that passed through the hallways that G-rough represents its art collection.
Before its opening, in April 2014, G-rough became the protagonist of a 24-hour performance, conceived and organized by Guendalina Salini and Silvia Litardi, entitled “Art is Real – an impermanent collection” involving over 25 Romans and international artists with the aim of animating the entire building with art, sounds, performances, installations and wall drawings.
Some traces of the art that marked this passage have remained in the building: the drawings of the characters on the stairs, the wall drawing that crosses two landings, the scribbled writings on the wall, the drawings on the coffered ceiling of the second floor.
All called to interpret the concept of “rough” in a personal and original way – producing works that can be integrated with the architecture of the places, dialoguing with the restoration of the rooms and the peeling walls and interpreting the creation of the new destination, with a sense of wonder.
